West Oxfordshire District Council is currently considering a planning application from Witney Town Council to upgrade the West Witney Sports Club, just off the Burford Road in Witney.
The planned upgrades would include:
• Separate toilet and changing facilities for males and females
• A new lift enabling disability access to the first floor
• The construction of new showers in each of the changing rooms
• Upgrades to the upstairs bar
• External works including: rendering, cladding and new windows
Local West Witney Councillor Thomas Ashby welcomed the news, “This investment to West Witney Sports Club is very exciting. This space has not seen significant investment for decades so I know this will be of huge benefit to all sports people, children and adults across the town. Once this work is complete in a couple of years, this will see West Witney have two modern sports pavilion to suit the needs of the whole community, I’m absolutely thrilled by the news and I know sports teams are too.”
Thomas went onto say, “Grass-roots sport is at the heart of the community, so investment is absolutely vital and that why this is so important to me. It provides the sports clubs with modern facilities, but also provides them with a modern social space, it’s just terrific.”
2024 will see the construction of the new sports pavilion on Windrush Place which will serve the two new football pitches and the local community.
Fellow West Witney District Councillor Jane Doughty said, “The new pavilion on Windrush Place cannot come soon enough, all the local councillors and residents here have been pushing these developers to deliver community facilities for some time. The plans have been approved which is great, so to see two modern facilities within our council ward is going to really, really exciting.”
